People ask me all the the time how to eat right. What do I eat? When I should I eat? What shouldn’t I eat? How many calories…?

It doesn’t have to be.

Tip 1: Eat a big breakfast or eat breakfast twice. When you wake in the morning you need to break your 10+ hour fast. “Breakfast.” Get it? Your body is starting for calories and your metabolism is in the toilet. You need to eat. Problem: most people aren’t used to eating a lot early in the morning. Solution: Eat twice. Eat your first meal right when you get up then eat again when you settle down at your job or at your desk. This will get the calories in your body, give you energy and get your metabolism moving.
Tip 2: The safe driving diet. No lie. I just made that up. It makes sense though. 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock. Eat something at both those hours to keep your metabolism and thus your energy moving. Eat some protein and some healthy carbohydrates. I love the idea of a banana and a cheese stick. An apple with peanut butter suites the bill as well. Eating a balanced snack at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock will help you reach your goals. If you don’t get the safe driving reference then you need to take drivers ed again.
Tip 3: Travel well. Believe it or not one of the biggest ways that people get derailed from healthy eating is being on the road. I don’t mean when you are on a road trip. How many people stop to get gas for your car and buy a snack at check out? Perhaps a soda? No cool. You need to stop that. The 10 minute drive home doesn’t requite a Little Debbie and a Dr. Pepper. Do you need a snack for you trip? Yes you do. Make it an apple and you are on the right track! Or, my favorite, trail mix!
