Define Reality

Define Reality

Define your reality. Powerful, powerful words right there. This phrase can help all of us; no matter where we are on our fitness journeys.

Define your reality.

Where are you? What are your struggles? What don’t you like? What do you like? What hurts? What is weak? What is strong? What looks like shit in the mirror? What does the scale say? What is your time or weight for your sporting activity?

My cross country coach in high school used to call himself “the mirror of reality”. In other works we ran and he told us what he just saw. He never picked the travel squads; we did that ourselves.

F’ing brilliant.

You need to do the same thing.

OK, you know you saw and hopefully you are brutally honest.

Did you define your reality?

That, in my opinion, is the hard part. Don’t sugar coat it. Be honest. Be pissed off. Be discussed if you have to be.

The next step should be simple but for a lot of us it is not.

Develop hope.

Let’s look at a couple of examples that may help.

You look in the mirror and you see a sad, fat face staring back at you.

I said to be honest. This one is tough but it is an honest assessment that I’m sure many would make. Now, the questions is this: How do you develop hope?

Look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself that you can do it and start…..

Start what? I’ll get back that.

You are a 40+ runner. Your 5k five years ago was 22 minutes. Now it is 24 minutes and you hate that. How do you develop hope?

Look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself that you can do it and start…..

Your back hurts. Your back still hurts. Your back always seems to hurt. You see that reality. You have defined THAT reality. How do you develop hope?

Look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself that you can do it and start…..

You get the point. Define reality and develop hope. Once you do this you get into action. Make to to read my post START HERE to know what to do next.

Often times people will start a workout program and have no idea why or no real vision what what it will look like in a week, month or 10 years. Most quit along the way while some continue and don’t get any results for months or years.

You must be 100% honest with yourself about your issues and WHY you need to exercise. Then you develop some hope. In other words you see a light at the end on the tunnel and you move towards it. If there is no hope there are no results. This you can bet you bottom dollar on.

Go for it now my friends. Define reality and develop hope. Once you do this the rest will fall into place. Please let me know if you need my help. I am here for you.
